Just in from the IAAD team:
Dear Extended Team,
We are pleased to announce:
International At-A-Distance V: Chops
Wednesday, November 8th – Sunday, December 17th, 2023
Organised by Dev Ray & Mikael Weichbrodt, and a team of experienced Crafties
The term “chops” may be familiar to many aspiring guitarists and other musicians. But what might it mean to a Crafty?
We invite you to join us for this 40-day exploration in which we aim to improve our ability to be in Time, in Tune, and in Tone as guitarists, musicians, and human beings – honing our skills so that we become more widely and deeply available to music.
IAAD V: Chops is the next step in the development of the IAAD course format and builds on our experience from the previous courses in this series. The course is organised by Dev Ray and Mikael Weichbrodt, joined by a team of Buddies including Alessandro Bruno, Roberto Deiana, Pia Quaet-Faslem, Tony Geballe, Curt Golden, Brad Hogg, Fernando Kabusacki, Victor McSurely, Luciano Pietrafesa, Alain Pinero, Martin Schwutke and Erin Wigger, supported by a number of other experienced Crafties.
Together with the participants, we will address both inner and outer chops, including work on the Primaries, Harmony, Ear Training, Repertoire, Body Beat, Morning Exercises, the Division of Attention, Alexander Technique, Quality Practice, Level T, and more.
This course will differ slightly from previous IAADs as we return to our original 40-day format and move towards a more clearly structured way of working, asking for active and committed participation. To quote GC House Rules, “if you decide to stay, you are expected to stay for the duration.” All experience levels are welcome.
As on earlier IAADs, the work will be presented using both live Zoom meetings and on-site postings, with the course being pre-planned only as much as necessary. We will also leave sufficient space for the work to direct itself according to the needs of the group and the moment; moving from Silence, and welcoming the unexpected.
*
This course is open to anyone who has participated in at least an introduction to Guitar Craft, Guitar Circle, or any of the subsequently formed groups carrying this work forward, and has an established Morning Sitting practice. If you have not attended a formal introduction, or are not sure whether this course is for you, please get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to offer guidance.
For those in the USA, this course will take place over the Thanksgiving holiday. We will of course be flexible about participation during that time period.
The minimum fee for participation is €250/$250. If this is not possible for you, a best shot is acceptable. We also welcome larger contributions from those who wish and are able to make them.
To register, please submit an application letter to rayoflightinc@gmail.com detailing:
Who are you?
Why do you wish to participate?
What is your aim for this 40-day course?
Once your application is received and accepted, you will receive more information.
