Just in from the Europa String Choir & Team, detailed information about three workshops they are holding this spring: March 29, 2025 Rome (Italy), April 15, 2025 Marktl (Germany), and May 6, 2025 Bergamo (Italy):
Since last year, Europa String Choir and team have been giving workshops titled „LISTEN. CONNECT. CREATE.“ in educational institutions in both Italy and Germany.
This offer of musical collaboration and improvisation is individually tailored to the group in question.
KEY ELEMENTS OF THE PROGRAMME:
SILENCE – In our experience, music is born from silence. At the beginning of each session, participants will be invited to join in a short guided body and spatial awareness exercise.
CIRCULATION – During the workshops, participants and leaders are usually seated together in a circle. A „Circulation“, involves generating a note from one point in the circle and passing that impulse from player to player around the circle, thus creating a musical flow. This technique can be used for spontaneous creation as well as for the applied study of music theory and even for the distributed performance of musical pieces. It is thus a key element in the refinement of group musical activity.
POLYRHYTHM AND BODY BEAT – Through the application and development of „division of attention“, the individual and/or group are encouraged and guided to perform several rhythmic divisions simultaneously, with the aim of creating the conditions whereby rhythm can be brought „into the body“ and out of the realm of mere „counting“.
ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE AND QIGONG – Practices accessible to all, that promote coordination and well-being, as well as quality of movement and performance in any activity. By encouraging the release of unnecessary tension and the development of a conscious relationship with one’s body, both disciplines are valuable tools that can be applied to individual and group work with a musical instrument.
IMPROVISATION – The creative impulse is present in all of us, but sometimes our own habits and prejudices prevent us from expressing this impulse. By using the above techniques to free ourselves from the ties that bind us & that prevent us from ‘flying’, we can assume the innocence of children who play without expectation of outcome and together create the conditions for group creativity.
