Radius Guitar Ensemble – Upcoming projects

The Radius Guitar Ensemble has announced a workshop and two projects, to be held in Germany and Italy, February through May, 2023:

Felshaus, Wang bei Moosburg, Germany

New Standard Tuning Introductory Workshop
February 11th, 10:00-18:00
Felshaus, Wang bei Moosburg, Germany
Price: €70

Players of all skill levels with the guitar welcome – including none at all!

If the musician has three disciplines – of the hands, the head, and the heart – what does this mean, and how do we apply it to our guitar playing and everyday practice?

Join us in the Circle for a one day introduction to circle work and guitar technique as developed in the constantly evolving tradition of Guitar Craft and the Guitar Circle.

We’ll work from late morning to early evening, guiding you through our approach to music and the guitar, including the New Standard Tuning, circulation, guitar calisthenics, rhythmic exercises and more.

The Alexander Technique, a mind-body approach to the use of the self, will be part of the workshop, introduced by certified AT teachers Cathy Stevens and Pia Quaet-Faslem.

Lunch and Tea Time meals are included.

The main language spoken will be English; German translation by native speakers is available.

The work will be done on acoustic, steel-string guitars, preferably with a shoulder strap.

If you wish to attend but don’t have a guitar or a guitar of that type, please contact us and we’ll help you find a solution.

If you wish to attend, please send an email to info@radiusguitarensemble.com

The Radius Guitar Ensemble is a recently formed group whose members have worked together for many years, holding courses all over the world and performing with the League of Crafty Guitarists, the Orchestra of Crafty Guitarists, and other ensembles in the tradition. They are currently based in Italy where they continue to perform and hold courses.

Radius Guitar Ensemble Weekend
February 10-12, 2023
Munich, Germany

A weekend of musical group work hosted by members of the Radius Guitar Ensemble, whose members have an extensive Guitar Craft and Guitar Circle background.

This is an ideal opportunity for those preparing for the Radius Guitar Ensemble – In Performance! project in April, as well as anyone who wishes to address their personal practice, reconnect to work in the circle, or simply get together with others and music.

As part of this weekend, we will also host a New Standard Tuning Introductory Workshop in from 10:00 to 18:00 on Saturday, February 11th, in the house.

Participation is open to anyone who has attended at least one Guitar Circle or directly related project. Much of our work will be done using guitars, but anyone who would see themselves participating without guitar is also welcome.

The weekend is organised by Alessandro Bruno and Mikael Weichbrodt, joined by local coordinators Jakob Likeneon and Pia Quaet-Faslem, and our long time friends Udo Dzierzanowski and Cathy Stevens.

Alexander Technique work will be available.

Our location is the Felshaus, a roomy, well-equipped house for groups, ca. 50 minutes from Munich by car or train. The house follows a precise schedule, so we need to arrive by 16:00 on Friday, February 10th, and depart no later than 16:00 on Sunday, February 12th.

The necessary contribution per person is €300.

If you wish to participate, please send an application letter to info@radiusguitarensemble.com, answering the following questions:

Who are you?
Why do you wish to participate?
What is your aim?

Further information will be provided upon application. For any questions, please don’t hesitate to send us an e-mail.

Villa San Bernardo, Ceprano, Italy

Radius Guitar Ensemble – In Performance!
April 15-23, 2023
Ceprano, Italy

Welcome to join us for nine days of performance focused work based in the Villa San Bernardo near Rome, including acoustic performances in the Rome-Napoli area towards the weekend of 21-23 April.

The Radius Guitar Ensemble inherits its name from the Stella Radius Quartet which performed in Bologna in October last year, using a new format based on the work done a few weeks earlier at the Beginning Again retreat in Ceprano. These experiences continue to inform us as we explore ways of approaching group work and the performance event.

Participation is open to anyone who has attended at least one Guitar Circle or directly related project. Much of our work will be done using guitars, but anyone who would see themselves participating without guitar is also welcome.

The work is organised by an experienced team including Alessandro Bruno, Giorgia Casmirro, Fernando Kabusacki, Marco Moreira, Dev Ray, and Mikael Weichbrodt. Roles will be assumed and held lightly according to the needs of the moment.

Alexander Technique work will be available, lead by Giorgia Casmirro.

The location is Villa San Bernardo, an annex to a nun’s convent located in Ceprano, ca. 1h south of Rome by train or car.

Arrivals: from Friday, April 14th late afternoon to Saturday, April 15th by 13:00
Departures: Sunday, April 23d after lunch

The necessary contribution per person is €600.
