Unfixing

Dear Crafty,

Two quick approaches to changing an established pattern:

1.    change the outside;
2.    change the inside.

Changing the outside we discussed: opening doors with a different hand, navigating through the office in a different direction.

Changing the inside we discussed – being present. But perhaps I didn’t emphasise…

In an established pattern of behaviour, if we become present within the body and within the pattern (physical, mental, feeling) something has already changed.

For example, walking back to this desk through the kitchen, I brought attention within the body and became aware that my spine wasn’t quite upright. Becoming aware of this, through sensation, the body posture changed.

Something like, playing the notes of Eye Of The Needle are (shall we say) a given – it’s repertoire. But the inner connection with, and submission to, the piece is what makes the music possible. If I’m not present, the music doesn’t come ot life: it’s only notes.

And fundamental to all: what is your aim?

Remembering that on the way to our work, there may be jobs along the way.

Very best,
Robert
