Guitar Circle Of Italy Meeting

Friday 23 – Sunday 25, March 2001

Roberto Deiana’s Parent’s Place, Rolo, Italy

Word

A report by Alessandro Bruno.

Friday:
Quite dense: at work from 8:30 to 14:30, home at 15:00, quick round with Lou in the area where we live to see a couple of houses on sale, 16:15 back home where Fabio P. was waiting for me to go to Rolo where we’d join Aldo, Filippo and Roberto in the evening, and Paolo would have joined us on Saturday morning.

The journey lasted more than 5 hours (we found traffic congestion on the way out from Roma), so we had a late dinner, set up the beds, prepared the schedule for the weekend, and went to sleep.

Saturday:

9.15 breakfast
10.00 Paolo arrival

16.30 break
17.00 circle

21.00 circle

In the morning we first presented the work we’ve done with the circle (exercises) to Paolo who’s with us for the first time, then we rehearsed together the few pieces we worked on, and we performed an A harmonic circulation followed by Shiva’s Dance at lunch for a bunch of people working next door, they enjoyed it and asked us to perform again during their next coffee break at 4.00.

In the afternoon we begun working on a Bach circulation: “Jesu, joy of man’s desire”, we did the first 8 bars plus the first set of chords before dinner. We had a bigger audience for our afternoon performance where we played Hope and Thrak; then Growing Circle was also presented by Paolo.

After dinner we kept working on the Bach piece taking it further to the next sets of chords.

We all had the unmistakable experience of the quality this kind of work brings to the group…

We gave Paolo a single room; his snoring is famous all over the world.

14.30 Final meeting

Today’s work addressed mostly the work we’ll need to do at home about right and left hand functioning, and then the rehearsal and the recording of the Bach circulation and Growing Circle.

During our final meeting we celebrated the 16th GC anniversary with a Tiramisù and a Italian Champagne, for the first toast I stated that GC down here is maybe slightly drunk, but definitely alive and kicking; for the second one I borrowed Frank Sheldon’s one for the completion of the GD experience, which I believe comes from far away and recites: “To the present moment, may it last forever”.

We left Rolo at around 3.45 and it took us again more than five hours to get home, where I found Lou concentrated on a new painting; I unpacked my staff, set all the watches in the house one hour later, a very light dinner, and then…
